This hospital is by far the worst medical care (if you can call it that) I have ever recieved in my life. Wishing I could rate it with negative stars. A friend of mine that's lived here for 15 years said, "I would not send my worst enemies here." and the locals call this a "band-aid station" because they have zero resources. I live in Yosemite Valley and unfortunately this is the only hospital for quite a long distance. I think this monopoly has made the medical care and treatment suffer terribly. I'm not really sure where to begin so I'll just cover the highlights of my experience. (Also, I will be submitting a formal complaint to the State Medical Board about this facility because this is completely unacceptable). I came into the hospital (it was after hours otherwise I never would have gone to ER) after being sick for about four days with what was suspected by my doctor to be Norovirus or some type of gastrointestinal tract virus. I was in a lot of pain and I was struggling to manage it and stay hydrated at the same time. My husband and I left from Yosemite Valley for Mariposa (1 hr 30 mins in the rain and darkness) and I cried my eyes out the entire way because I couldn't deal with the pain I was expereincing. When we finally arrived at the hospital, I was taken away from my husband immediately. She asked me to calm down from crying and to take deep breaths (which I understood). She told me she needed me to give a urine sample. I told her it was too painful. At that point her voice was sassy and she responded with, "It's that or a catheter, your choice." It was snarky but I was in so much pain I didn't say anything. After taking a urine sample she took me to a room and put an IV in my arm that wasn't hooked up to anything. She told me they would eventually hook me up to a saline bag for rehydration. At this point, my husband was waiting in the tiny lobby. Through all of this, here are my compaints: 1) The nurse threatened me by saying that I could not see my own husband until I stopped crying. 2) They lied to my husband about my wearabouts by telling him that he could not come back with me because I was in triage and the room was too small (I was never in triage, I was in the same room the entire time and there was plenty of space for my husband to be with me). 3) They inserted an IV in my arm (I'm TERRIFIED of needles, hospitals, and all things related) and said I was overreacting because my fears were irrational and after all of that, they never even hooked me up to a saline bag to rehydrate me!! 4) I heard them talking about myself, other patients, and off duty employees with so many negative words. 5) I was discharged, despite the fact that I still felt the same amount of pain as I did when I arrived. There response to my complaint was, "You really just need to find a way to deal with the pain." I was disgusted with that statement. Ever heard of bedside manner or just plain old being polite? 6) They neglected to give me back any of my personal information and they didn't even put the correct last name on any of my paperwork despite me telling them that I changed my name (DL, insurance ID, etc.) 7) I was required to return back to Mariposa in order to pick up the medication I needed. I cannot stress the inconvience of having to drive a total of 6 hours over the course of two days. There response to this, "That's what you get for living in Yosemite Valley." WOW! I could seriously go on and on about all the other things that went wrong but this is already ridiculously long. My advice to anyone seeking medical attention is this: If you can wait to go to Fresno or Merced, you're much better off than going here! This hospital has zero resources, rude, inconsiderate, and incompetent staff members. If I am ever desperate enough again, I'll just call an ambulance in Yosemite Valley instead of going to John C. Fremont.
